Angelina Jolie Set to Take Cleopatra's Crown, but Is She the Right Choice?

It's only been a week since Elizabeth Taylor passed away, and Angelina Jolie is already set to steal her Cleopatra crown.

Word is that Jolie will be stepping into the sandals famously worn by Taylor in the 1963 flop that boosted her growing fame. Jolie may have the fierce Cleo bitch-face down, but does she have the Oscar-worthy credentials of, let's say, Natalie Portman?

Oscar-winner round two, anyone?

We totally think Portman could channel her inner Egyptian head bitch in charge and look just as good in golden toga attire as she did in her feathered Black Swan number.

While the studio and production company are not yet commenting on casting rumors, a source tells us, "There isn't even a production office for the film yet. Everything is still very preliminary but should be coming together in the next few weeks."

The new version of the film is said to focus less on Cleo's sexual antics and more on her role as a politician and warrior. Makes sense because Jolie is always cast in roles that downplay her sensuality, no?

We first told you that The Social Network's David Fincher's name is attached as the film's director, but it is still not known who will play Cleopatra's Marc Anthony. Now that's a casting call we would love to weigh in on!

Perhaps Angie's better half, Brad Pitt, would want the role? That ultimately didn't work out so well for Taylor with her on- and off-set love interest Richard Burton the first time around.

Fincher is currently working on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with Scott Rudin, who is also producing Cleopatra. Sounds like these two enjoy working together, almost as much as Brangelina. Could be one killer, award-winning foursome, right?

The only thing more killer would be for Angelina to tap into her inner Cleopatra just as brilliantly as Natalie morphed into the Black Swan. Can she?
